Who were the tallest and heaviest men to play test rugby for the All Blacks?

LEVEL: Primary / Intermediate / Secondary

As rugby is such a physical sport there are certain advantages in some positions on the field, to being either tall or heavy (or both).

If we do a search on Deeper Web you will need to think of which words to use to get a good result. If we try "All Blacks tallest heaviest" together in speech marks you will find you get some results.

HOT TIP: We like DeeperWeb because the ‘tag cloud’ on the right suggests search words that will help ‘build’ a search. We can also use it to narrow our results to educational resources or to sites with .org or .govt in the website address.

All has a number of different categories of statistics, including the heaviest and tallest players. This site has player statistics dating back to the 1970s to today. Prior to that there may have been such statistics but these may not be accessible from the internet. You may have to try sourcing some New Zealand reference books, such as old copies of the New Zealand Yearbook at your local public library, or other titles on rugby, to get results further back than the 1970s.

HOT TIP: Websites that have .com or .co in the address can have good information, but you need to assess how reliable it is. Check the ‘about us’ link on the website, if you can find one. That can tell you what the company’s mission and values are.

Another great resource for rugby related information is the All Blacks' official website. It's a little bit hard to navigate but it does have some great info on the history of the game and players. On the left hand side of the screen there is a field called, 'In this section,' and in it is, 'Players – Past and Present.' The next step is to click on 'Stats and Lists' and some interesting facts will appear.

These fact sheets have information about the tallest, fastest, lightest and heaviest men to play test rugby for the All Blacks
